Adaptogens
Adaptogens refer to herbs that aid in our ability to manage stress, essentially supporting our adaptation to stress. However, what exactly is stress? Someone once fittingly defined stress as "anything that exceeds your capacity." This includes day-to-day mental stress resulting from numerous responsibilities, work or school-related challenges, relationships, and situations that trigger intense emotions. Stress also encompasses physical stress caused by factors such as fluctuations in temperature, noise, lack of sleep, hunger, intense physical exertion, or air travel. Additionally, stress is induced by chemical factors, such as the entrance of toxic substances into our body via air, food, and water.
Adaptogens are responsible for strengthening the body on several levels, allowing it to handle stressors more effectively. They affect both the body and the mind, while also having an impact on emotions. Adaptogens enhance our cognitive and physical abilities, while simultaneously reducing nervous tension and contributing to a sense of profound tranquility and unyielding confidence in our ability to manage all situations.
