Description

Mustard seeds are usually about 1 to 2 millimetres (0.039 to 0.079 in) in diameter and may be colored from yellow, white to black. They are an important spice in many regional foods and come from one of three plants: black mustard (Brassica nigra) or white/yellow mustard (B. hirta/Sinapis alba).

Uses of Mustard Seeds
Black mustard seeds are used in Europe to produce Dijon mustard and other specialty mustards, and the usual table mustard in Russia is made from black mustard seeds. In Asian countries, Black mustard seeds are used to produce condiments and mustard oil. White and Yellow mustard seeds are ground to make a yellow mustard condiment - prepared mustard.

Mustard seeds naturally are packed with minerals and are rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorous. Traditional medicine has utilized mustard seeds to relieve cold symptoms, aid in digestion, reduce aches and pains, and lessen respiratory issues.
